Family and Friends,
On October 25th, 2009, I will be running my second Marine Corps Marathon as a member of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Burn Foundation Marine Corps Marathon Team. Last year, with your help, we rose over $60,000 for the Burn Foundation and I would like to personally thank everyone who made a pledge.
If this is your first pledge, let me provide you with some information about the IAFF and the Burn Foundation. The IAFF represents more than 288,000 firefighters and emergency personnel who protect 85% of the nation’s population. The IAFF is the driving force behind nearly all advancements in the fire service including: firefighter safety and adequate fire apparatus staffing. The IAFF allows firefighters to speak with one voice in order to obtain what is necessary to perform the job safely and effectively.
Each year nearly 2.5 million people, including firefighters and emergency responders, are burned each year. This is why in 1982, the IAFF founded the IAFF Burn Foundation, and why the Foundation has been the driving force behind nearly every burn safety advance in the fire and emergency services for the last 25 years. Since its inception, the IAFF Burn Foundation has awarded more than $2.5 million to burn research, making it one of the largest non-governmental sources for burn research grants. Foundation-funded research has been published in numerous professional medical journals and has greatly contributed to the advancement of treatment and quality of life issues for burn survivors.
Due to the support this Foundation provides to citizens and firefighters, I have elected to become part of this great cause. It is my goal to raise $1500.00 for the IAFF Burn Foundation by October 25th, race day. I am asking you for a pledge in my name to this great cause that impacts us all.
There are two ways in which to make a pledge:
1. Visit my IAFF Burn Foundation pledge webpage where you can make a secure donation at: http://www.active.com/donate/IAFFBurnMCM09/CTackson
2. A check sent to me via mail. The check should be made out to the IAFF Burn Foundation.
Any questions please feel free to contact me or view the IAFF Burn Foundation website, http://burn.iaff.org/index.shtml
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Christopher Tackson Senior Firefighter/EMT
